Twelve teams will battle it out for the IRB Challenge Cup - the second officially sanctioned Women’s International Sevens tournament this season ahead of a World Series next year.

Twelve international women’s teams will contest the upcoming IRB Women’s 7s Cup Challenge in Hong Kong. It’s a much stronger line up than last year’s tournament, which was won by Canada, with 7s World Champions Australia and European Champions England both taking part this time around.

The Chinese women's rugby 7s side were crowned Asian Champions over the weekend defeating Kazakhstan 31-12 in the final avenging their defeat at the Asian Games last year. Twelve of Asia's top teams competed at the event. In the final, Gao Yan was a standout player for China, as her side established a 15-0 lead at half time.

In the second annual Asia Pacific Women’s Rugby Sevens, Papua New Guinea claimed its first title with a 24-10 win over China. The tournament brings together some of the best teams in the two regions. Current champions Kazakhstan were absent but the 8 teams that did line up included Samoa, China, Hong Kong and last year's runner-up, Papua New Guinea.
